With the announcement of school closures I have created a "School Closure Resource" page with a variety of different resources for your students to stay active and healthy at home. Many of these resources can be used right at home and do not require students to be outside or at a gym. Of course, it is ideal to be able to get active outside of the home, but I provided some resources for students to be active inside the comforts of their homes in light of recent events.
I am aware that many of your students are involved in extra curricular sports, activities, and other hobbies that keep them moving. If students are able to continue participating in the aforementioned that is wonderful, but please use the resource page I provided if you are having trouble finding ways to get your students active. Department of Health and Human Services, recommend that children and adolescents ages 6 through 17 years do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.1Regular physical activity in children and adolescents promotes health and fitness. Compared to those who are inactive, physically active youth have higher levels of fitness, lower body fat, and stronger bones and muscles. Physical activity also has brain health benefits for school-aged children, including improved cognition (e.g., academic performance, memory) and reduced symptoms of depression. Regular physical activity in childhood and adolescence can also be important for promoting lifelong health and well-being and preventing risk factors for various health conditions like heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes
