Unit A: Mental, Emotional, Family, and Social Health Lesson 1: Your Feelings Students will demonstrate ways in which they can enhance and maintain their health and well-being. Students will understand and demonstrate how to promote positive health practices within the school and community, including how to cultivate positive relationships with their peers. Lessons 2 & 3: Show Good Character Good Character is shown in what you say and do. Good Character is a way of acting that is best for you and others. It means doing the right thing. - Show Respect - Be Fair - Be Caring - Be Responsible - Be Trustworthy - Be a Good Citizen Lesson 4: Make Wise Decisions The students will practice behaviors that reduce the risks of being inclvolved in potentially dangerous situations. They will develop skills to avoid, restive, and cope with conflicts. Wise Decisions Checklist: O Is it healthful? O Is it safe? O Do I follow laws? O Do I show respect for others? O Do I follow family rules O Do I show good character?
Lesson 5: Share Your Feelings The students will learn that sharing feelings helps us get along with others and have a healthy mind. Key Vocabulary: communicate, feelings
Lesson 6: Communication & Self Concept The students will develop and use effective communication skills. They will identify and share feelings in supportive ways. How to Communicate 1. Think about what you want to say 2. Look at the person. Speak clearly, calmly, and nicely. 3. Listen to the other person. 4. Make sure you understand each other.
The students will also understand that everyone has something he or she does well. This week will learn ways to maintain a healthy "self-concept". Self Concept: The way you see yourself
Lesson 7: Managing Stress & Making Mistakes Stress is the changes that happen in our bodies when we have strong feelings The students will develop and use effective coping strategies and effective communication skills. They will be able to identify feelings of stress and how to manage them.
Everybody makes mistakes. The students will develop protective factors that help foster resiliency . They will understand that everyone makes mistakes, and that we learn from them.
